CAME and
“Antioch Congregation” forming new partnership Silver Spring, MD - The Lutheran Church of St. Andrew’s in Silver Spring, Maryland has developed a new proposal with CAME for partnership in Gospel outreach among Asian communities in North America. The proposal follows a series of discussions between leaders of the St. Andrew and CAME Boards of Directors. The proposal includes plans for developing a relationship in which the CAME agency and “corporate center” would over time become embedded within the life and ministry of St. Andrew. Specifics include the possibility of housing CAME offices and a mission center, which would offer video-conferencing, a research lab, a resources library and conference space on the new St. Andrew campus in Silver Spring which will be ready for occupancy in 2005. CAME’s future operations center will eventually be developed in the Midwest. Other possibilities are support for CAME’s Pauline Missionary Journeys, and the opportunity for the St. Andrew congregation to be ministered to by CAME’s missionaries, including Jotham Johann Jhang, CAME’s Executive Director. This new potential relationship is part of the larger CAME strategy to work more closely with local congregations, which have been blessed by God with ambitious vision and a thirst for closer involvement in supporting Asian missions. CAME and St. Andrew will work to develop an “Antioch network” of like-minded congregations which will “send” CAME missionaries out directly and relate directly to CAME, using the Antioch model for mission work spelled out in the book of Acts. Having been approved by the St. Andrew Board of Directors in July, 2003, the mission partnership proposal will be considered by the CAME Board of Directors at its next meeting on September 24-25, 2003 in St. Louis. Prayers are coveted and suggestions are welcome as the potential partners consider this bold venture for the mission of Christ.
